Karen Cassidy Thompson, PhD is a Senior Principal Scientist Preclinical Development at Merck Research Laboratories in West Point, Pennsylvania. She received a BA in Chemistry from Dartmouth College and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Duke University. Following a post-doctoral appointment at Columbia University, she joined Merck Research Labs where she has been a member of Oral Formulation Science and Technology for 35 years. As a research formulator of solid oral dosage forms, her interests include pediatric and geriatric formulation development and formulation strategies. She is a co-lead of the IQ Consortium Pediatric Sub team participating in the ng tube testing, and neonate sub teams. She enjoys the excitement and challenge of formulation design and development seeking to devise solutions to enhance patient adherence.
